Some trees can't be saved. A dead ash, an oak that split in the last storm, a maple leaning toward the bedroom, or a tree planted too close to the foundation years ago β all of these eventually need to come down. When they do, you want a crew that does it carefully, cleans up completely and tells you the price before anyone starts a saw.
Wilmer's is a small, hands-on crew based in Kansas City, KS. We've been removing trees across the metro for seven years, we're licensed and insured, and the person who gives you your estimate is part of the crew that does the work.
Trees we remove
Dead and dying trees are the most common call. Once a tree dies, the wood dries out and becomes brittle, and limbs can drop without warning. We also remove storm-damaged trees with split trunks or large broken leaders, trees with a lean that has gotten worse over time, and trees whose roots or branches are crowding a house, garage, fence or driveway.
How we assess the job
Before we quote, we walk the tree with you. We look at the direction and severity of the lean, signs of decay like cavities, fungus or loose bark, and what sits underneath β roofs, power drops, fences, gardens, play sets. We also look at access: how close we can get, gate widths, and where the wood will go.
That walk-around decides how the tree comes down. If there's open space and nothing in the way, we may fell it in one piece. In most Kansas City backyards, though, there isn't room, so our professional climber goes up and takes the tree down in sections, lowering heavier pieces on ropes so they land exactly where we want them.
Protecting your roof, fence and lawn
We don't bring heavy equipment that ruts up yards. Pieces are rigged down, cut to manageable size and carried or wheeled out. When we're done, we haul away the trunk, limbs and debris, then rake and blow the area so the yard looks like we were never there. Haul-away is included in every removal price.
If you want the stump gone too, stump grinding is available as an add-on on the same visit or later. We list it as its own line on your estimate so you can choose.
Permits
Most residential tree removals on private property in the Kansas City metro don't need a permit. Some cities, HOAs and trees in the public right-of-way between the sidewalk and street have their own rules, so check with your city or HOA if you're unsure. We're happy to point you in the right direction.
What's included
- On-site walk-around and free written estimate
- Climbing and rigging or controlled felling, whichever is safest
- Protection for roofs, fences, gardens and turf
- All wood, limbs and debris hauled away
- Raking and blowing the work area clean
- Optional stump grinding as an add-on
How we price it
Every tree is different, so we price after seeing it. The main things that affect the price are the tree's height and trunk diameter, how easy it is to reach, how many structures sit underneath or nearby, and whether you want the stump ground.
A tall tree in an open front yard costs less than a smaller tree hanging over a house with a narrow backyard gate. Whatever the job, you get a written estimate with no hidden fees, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

How long does a tree removal take?
Most single residential trees are done in a few hours to one day, including cleanup. Large trees over a house or with tight access can take longer; we tell you the expected time on your written estimate.
Will you damage my lawn or driveway?
We don't bring heavy equipment that tears up yards. A climber takes the tree down in sections and we carry or rig pieces out, protecting roofs, fences and turf along the way.
Is stump grinding included?
Stump grinding is an optional add-on. We price it separately on the same estimate so you can decide whether to grind the stump now or leave it.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
Most residential removals on private property in the Kansas City metro don't need a permit, but some cities and HOAs have their own rules. Check with your city or HOA before work begins.
